Scenic Trails in Eastern, PA - Northampton Canal Park

As I mentioned last week, I’ve been making an effort to find the best trails in Lehigh Valley. This week's big find: Northampton Canal Park.

Once famous for cement production, the borough of Northampton recently updated the land along the Lehigh Canal to create an idyllic park setting, complete with picnic pavilions, park benches, baseball diamonds and a one-mile paved walkway. This path is perfect for a leisurely stroll and if you're looking for a longer walk, the southern end of connects to a natural dirt trail that leads you through the woods to the Hokendauqua Creek.

Although Canal Park is particularly lovely in the spring when the flowers are blooming and in the fall when the leaves are changing colors, if you venture out in the peak of summer you might catch a glimpse of the local children perched high up in the trees, waiting for their turn to soar through the air on a rope swing and plunge into the water below.
